What feels like losing momentum in your business — is actually setting the foundation for your success

I don't know about you but sometimes setting aside 30 minutes of my morning to actually organize and plan my day seems like the most audacious waste of time.

And yet, I know that if I don't do that I will waste far more time trying to figure out what I should be focusing on, start 3 things that may or may not be truly important, get sidetracked down a rabbit hole of internet or social media scrolling and will be frustrated in a few hours that I've made no progress.

I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way but sometimes it feels like especially as a mompreneur the time I have access to childcare/ school is so precious I need to maximize every second. I want to feel like every second I have to work on my business is the most valuable use of my time. And, I think, that's why it can feel so painful, so hard, and honestly like you're losing momentum if you have to stop and spend time working deeply on the foundation of your business.

Why does this matter? So often I meet with a potential client for a rebrand and they're excited to tell me how they're planning a photoshoot and already working with a web designer to update their website BEFORE we ever begin a rebrand. Or sometimes they know they're ready for a rebrand but they haven't spent time clarifying the ideal client that they NOW want to work with.

I might be wrong… but I think this comes from 2 different misunderstandings:

  1. That somehow a brand is separate from your other collateral - that a brand somehow can be separate from the photos you take to promote your business, that it can separate from your website, separate from your marketing, separate from your ideal client, separate from your core values.

    and…

  2. That it would mean lost momentum in your business, and an audacious waste of time for you to ONLY work on a rebrand before updating all the other assets you know need to be updated as part of your rebrand.

But I hate to tell you, this loss of momentum  is the key to setting your business up for future success with a rebrand. If you don't take the time to get clear on your core values, your ideal client, your mission, and your vision — I'm not able to craft the most aligned rebrand for you. That is vital information to know because your brand flows from here, the heart of your business. From there your brand flows and from your brand flows your marketing and from there your client experience fulfills the expectations of your client based on your brand and marketing.

Your brand is the foundation from which all your marketing and client experience flows. You are creating more work, more wasted time and money, and more frustration by attempting to “get ahead” in your rebrand if you're working on the things that will be directly impacted and informed by it (your photo shoot, your website, your new marketing effort on Pinterest or your new podcast). Change your brand and you'll need to go back and update all of those things you tried to get ahead of in the meantime, PLUS a good designer is going to help you set the strategy and create the shot list for that photoshoot, can create a wireframe with suggested updates for your website, can create templates for the Pinterest marketing campaign and the cover for your new Podcast as PART of your rebrand.

So I just want to encourage you and empower you to remember that it is NOT losing momentum in your business to focus and invest in the foundations that are going to set you up for success. You've got this friend!
